We will be working on the Genealogy Merit Badge at this weeks troop meeting. Scouts should download the merit badge book and workbook and start the following tasks.


Please complete the following:

  1. Define the terms
  2. Create a time line of yourself starting with when you (or a relative) were born, and list all significant parts of your life.  Starting school, maybe moving to a new home, siblings born, new friends, awards, etc. Then write a short biography.
  3. Interview a relative (please ensure you include a parent or another adult for safety) and record their life events
  4. Research 3 different genealogy resources, like www.ancestry.com). Find a historical document about the family.  It may be a marriage certificate, military document, or census information from years past.
  5. Complete you Family Tree – use the Pedigree Chart included in the workbook
  6. Complete a family group record – Use the Family Group Record Chart in the workbook
  7. Complete a family group record form
  8. Explain what you learned through this merit badge.  Was there anything that you didn’t know?  Did anything surprise you?  Did you find that you are related to anyone famous?
